While not an overly long opening hole, this is still a testing initial tee shot with rough left and right. The ground also slopes quite steeply on the right and any ball that holds up in the right first cut will be above your feet. The green is a generous target but there is a steep drop-off left and long of this green that should be avoided. If the ground is firm, players can take advantage of the downslope on the approach to the green by landing short and allowing their ball to bounce and roll forward and onto the putting surface. There is a flat section of ground on the left hand side of this fairway about 130 yards from the green that has been cut into the hill at some time in the past, possibly to form a green or teeing ground as part of the original layout of the course.
Pro’s Tip:
Aim down the right side of the fairway with your preferred club for the tee shot, leaving you a straight forward approach shot to a fairly generous green that gathers the ball slightly from the right. Graham Ross Golf Professional.
